Watch Jack White cover Lorde’s “Royals”

The original was removed from youtube, and this new version only has a snippet of audio.  The surprises keep coming from Jack White on his Lazaretto tour. After covering Jay Z’s “99 Problems” at a recent stop, the reigning king of the blues covered New Zealand pop-princess Lorde’s chart topper, but with a decidedly Whitean […]

Hear the Future Islands remix of Phantogram’s “Black Out Days”

It’s no secret: I love Phantogram. I’d also say “Black Out Days” is my favorite track from this years full-length Voices, which is a strong contender for my top-10 albums of 2014. This rendition feels lighter, not as passionate as the original. The tempo dropped, verbed out square waves became more prominent, but the track […]

Jack White covers Jay Z’s “99 Problems” during “Icky Thump” at Forecastle Music Festival

Jack White gave the attendees of Forecastle Music Festival an unexpected surprise last weekend when he covered “99 Problems” during the white stripes song, “Icky Thump.” Considering we’re still in the post-divorce phase of Jack White’s career and his recent words about not speaking to Meg White, I have to wonder if that choice isn’t […]

Weezer releases new track, “Back to the Shack,” their first since 2010

I love Weezer. Some of my fondest memories from high school are of driving around with a car full of people singing Pinkerton with it cranked to top volume. Today’s newset track is an anthem for the old days, a tribute to an era of discovery, when they were still unsure about whether this is […]

Diplo releases remix of Lorde’s “Tennis Courts”

Maybe it’s just the bro in me, but I kind of like Diplo. It’s not that I listen to his stuff everyday, but I have had a lot of fun at Diplo shows over the years. Today, he released the “Andre Agassi Remix” of Lorde’s “Tennis Courts,” and it’s a bass heavy groove laden mid-set […]

Hear the song Grimes and Majical Cloudz wrote about their fat cat in 2009

Listen here: Canada’s Claire Boucher posted a song she made with Dev from Majical Cloudz on her tumblr page today. The track was written in 2009 about an especially cantankerous cat they had. She writes: found this song on my computer that me and dev of majical cloudz made in like 2009 about our cat […]

Good news and bad news. Good news: Jenny Lewis released the first video from her upcoming album The Voyager today. “Just One of the Guys” features appearances from Kristen Stewart, Brie Larson, and Anne Hathaway, all dressed as the worst kind of men. “There’s only one difference between you and me / When I look at myself […]

Weird Al releases “Happy” parody, “Tacky”

Weird Al took on the biggest song of last spring with his new track, “Tacky.” The song parodies Pharrell Williams’ hit, “Happy,” and was produced by Nerdist. It features Guest appearances from comedians Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, Kristen Schaal and Jack Black, the video shot on location at the historic Palace Theatre in […]
